Phoenix Arizona
It was built by Boyce Luther Gulley, who abandoned his wife and daughter in 1930 after learning that he had tuberculosis. He travelled to Phoenix and started building a "castle" for the little girl he'd left behind. Mary Lou Gulley was a toddler when her father unexpectedly left and never returned. He died in 1945 and left it to his wife and daughter. His daughter Mary Lou Gulley lived in the castle until her passing in November of 2010.
He built the castle out of native stone and any scraps he could find. It has eighteen rooms, thirteen fireplaces, parapets and many charming nooks and crannies, and is furnished with southwestern antiques.
It was a very interesting tour.
